Well its my birthday today, and its been very special, more and more I love Amie, and the little things she does, she bought me a really cool blue and white stipe Apron, and a very cool North Face Jacket. Others got me cool things, mostly to do with food.

My mom and dad were out here this weekend and they bought me a Ice cream cake from Dairy Qween, and tonight I was about to get it, as we took a break in our home groups (Study Projects) I went out to the freezer to get it, and as I was about at the door, Christine was comeing out of the Laundry room with a even bigger Ice cream cake, it was really funny, because I was going to get my cake. I love Icecream Cakes from Diary Qween, the ones with the chocolate fudge in the inside.

So I had a wonderful day, thank you all, for the cards and phone calls. To my Family for calling and singing to me, and getting more and more excited about the wedding. Oh I'm so excited!

I'm in Canada!

Well just so you all know, I'm back home today. We had a wonderful time, we spent lots of time together and we visited her whole family.

We went to Blackpool for the day with Evie and Beth, it was lots of fun we went on the Pepsi Max, a rollercoaster and Valhalla which we needed the plastic bags for, we all went on it and we were all very brave! It was fun. Blackpool was fun, not so clean but good. And we really injoyed our fast food that day with McDonald’s and KFC and the fair food, cotton Candy and so much more.

We went to Whales to visit Amies brother Nigel and Beth and kids, it was fun to see where they live, we went to a castle to look around it was neat to see some history!

We also saw Adam and Rachelle and Kids it was good to see them, we made some glasses for our selves. Don't we look good!
The trip was great; we really enjoyed our selves a lot. I got back today and will be working in the morning. It will be good, but would love to be in England, oh well I'll have to go again! If Amie doesn't mind me coming again.

On Monday at 3:30 I got dropped off at the floatplane dock and got in. I flew over to Vancouver for a 6:30 flight, well every other time I have gone on the floatplane its gone strait to Vancouver but this time it had to go to two different Islands, which took a little more time than I had thought it would, we landed in Vancouver and as we were pulling up to the dock, they were pulling the planes out of the water which I knew was going to delay me even more since they close the road when they do that.

Well I got over to the airport in the end and checked in, I thought I would have to run to the gate because I thought when going through security would take a long time, but when I got there their was no line up at all. So I walked over to my gate and hung out till we boarded the plane. When I got in the plane was empty well almost any way, I had a couple of seats for my self, which was very nice to be able to relax. It was like first class with out the good food and drinks, but very relaxing. We landed on time and I got over to terminal one and waited to fly over to Manchester. I arrived early in Manchester so I was out ready to be picked up by Amie’s mom.

As we were driving home we were talking about how I might surprise Amie, well I have to say I ran many Ideas through in my mind. I decided to surprise her by calling her on a cell phone and then we would talk for a bit and I would walk in to her room and then she would see me.

So we got home before Amie, so Helen let me into the house with her cell phone, and she went to pick Amie up from work. When they got home I use the cell phone to call Amie at home, I told that I wasn't feeling well, and I was up early (because in Canada it would have been 9 in the morning) so I thought I would call her. At this point she thinks I'm with my roommate Scott in a condo in parksville. Well then we talked and as that was going on I started to walk up to her room, as I was walking through the kitchen her mom coughed and Amie asked who was that, and I told her it was Scott. (Because that’s who I told her I was with for mid term) and she said to me, "Scott coughs like a girl!" (Sorry Scott), Then she said, "If I didn't know better I'd think you were with a girl!" Which is when I walked in the room saying, "I am with a girl" It took a while to hear her say anything, and she tried to pinch her self, and I was still there.

It was good to be able to surprise her this way, she is at work right now, I know she likes her job but I think she would rather be with me right now, but she will be home for lunch soon and then tonight we can go out or maybe stay in because I'm sick.

I asked her a while ago what she wanted for her birthday, and she said all she wants is me for her birthday, well happy birthday and valentines as well, but just so you know I did buy her some things for her birthday.

The art of food~

I love food, I love eating food, looking at food, and making it. I love making it look good. There is nothing more exciting to me than a plate that looks really cool with sauces and different colors that make a plate shine.

This picture I took at the Sooke Harbor House, at first glance they look like flower arrangements but really they are very fancy meals on a plate. As a chef you always want to do different things, adding colors that change the way it looks. Sauces that change the taste. The meat can be the same, and yet it could taste so different, depending what you do with it.

I love food, one of the things that I really like is going to town, like today I went on what we call Town run, were I buy food for the school, What I really like about it is I see all the ingredients and I can touch them, and smell, and really know if I want to use them. The Market is great; I love to buy vegetables from there. Safe of Foods is great not only because I see new products that we can use but also because the people that work there are great, today they gave me 9000 extra save on more points, yeah they really like me.

I love the new places that I find as well Like Amie and I's favorite bakery, its called the True Grain Bakery we love it, they make all there own bread. Organic grain that they mill them selves, the bread is so good. They make the best Chocolate buns.

I also love cheese, mmm so good, fresh goats milk cheese, there is a place I found one day its called Hillary’s cheese, and this man makes all his own cheese.

More and more I hope to find more places like the bakery and cheese place to find more local and 'Organic' ingredients now as most of you know I'm not a Organic kind of guy, but I do like the Idea of it, and today as I hear on the news the government is trying to make it more consistent. I never believed that it was consistent. I found it hard to buy Organic butter for $8 instead of $4 per pound when you can't really taste the difference.

I love food, I get excited about it, but you know who I love, Amie, I love Amie I love talking to her, seeing her, spending time with her she is so wonderful to me, she is the most wonderful thing thats happened to me. Thank you Amie for being so good and special to me.

Thank you all who didn't call our house, with the exception of two people, who don't read my blog any way. Its looking like a great season so far, I'm not sure where its all gonna go from here. Its very exciting.

Now I have to ask all those 24 fans out there, what do you think, if a person has not see the first 5 seasons do you think this is a good one to get in to it, or is Jack a little to intense? Tell me what you think.

Our time in Whales!

I know that I don't blog very much at all, but i wanted to show you all a couple of pictures of whales, we went to conwy and it was nice to get a away. We took some time to walk around and then we went to anglsee Island! The sun was setting while we were there I think Amie has some pics of that!

I guess why I thought I would blog, was really to say that I had a wonderful time in England, Time with Amie was great we did so many things with each other! I can't wait to see her again soon I hope!~

Theater Of Dreams

When we drove from home, we went down the road and turned down on our way to the Lowry Center. We parked in the car park and walked through the mall and walked over to the big red cinema (Movie theater) and walked right through and walked over to a big window, and then we saw it with our own two eyes, John (Amies dad), Toni (Amies Cousin) and I We saw it OLD TRAFORD The Theater of dreams, Where Manchester United Plays!

We walked over to a coffee shop for a Mocha and then we made our way over to the stadium, It was like nothing I had ever seen before, Whole streets closed off, it was crazy, so much fun with over 77,000 people to do the same thing, watch Man Unt win, which they did.

Our Trip to Durham

Amie and I went up to Durham for a couple of days. We went up because she wanted to show me where she has spent the last year and a half! It was a wonderful time to see this beautiful place! I Just loved the whole thing! I'll tell you a little about the place! This first picture is of one of the bridges going into the town sqaure. I wanted to put in a picture of the Square as well, but it did not work.This is a sign post. Legend has it that When C.S. Lewis was in durham, one of these lamposts was his insperation for Narnia!

On Monday Amie and I went into town, It was nice to get out for the day. We went to do some shopping, some eating and even went on a giant wheel. Yeah thats right, we went on the gaint wheel, in exchange Sqaure. It was lots of fun. I like going into town, its really cool and old looking! Some parts their is no trafic this makes it nice to walk round! It seems hard to really even talk about, because This happened on monday, and I have been trying to upload pics and its not been working. We had some really good german bratwurst on a bun, This is what we also had last year, and we really like them! This is me eating mine!Then we went on the wheel! It was so much fun to see things from this view! We wanted to go last year, and then I think that I backed out! But It looked so cool, So this year we did go!
This was a great pic that Amie took, and I liked it very much, well see takes most of the pics, except for the ones of her!

From Dinner to England!

So its been a while since I last bloged, I know (for every one that's been bugging! Me!) But Here I am in England, and Its great to be here with Amie, I have been in the country for about a day know, and I have just woken up, about an hour ago I think, and Amie made me some eggs, bacon and toast.... And Coffee which I really needed.

From Thetis to England, a long trip it was, Ted and Scott Dropped me off at the ferry, right after we watched a movie, I got on with about 6 other people, there were hardly any one on it! But lucky for me the 6 that were on the ferry, were also going to the airport, we all caught a taxi together, which saved us a lot of money. I hung out for about 6 hours and got on the plane, few to Ottawa, then hung, there for 3 hours, dinner (lunch Thetis time) Then got on an other plane to London, I wanted to go to the Manchester gate, but found out I had two bags, which I needed to get rid of one, so I checked it! Then got over to my gate, All this talk about being strict with bags, and liquids is very true! But It all worked out very well.

Now the best part, of the whole, trip was that all my bags came out right away, And the very best part was that when I walked out, Amie was there waiting for me, and we hugged and it was great! She took me home, We hung out for a bit, and then I slept for a couple of hours, I woke up and (Well Amie, woke me up) We hung out and I rested for a bit and watched The X factor That was good, Leona won!

We went to drop off Helen, Amies mom off at church and I drove, it was the first time on the left side, it was fun, but I will still need some more practice. We came home to go back to church to go to the Carroll sing time! It was good, but I'm afraid I slept trough most of it.

So we came home and I basically went to bed. The next thing was that I woke up this morning and I already talked about that. Were going into town to St. Anne square for the European market which is a lot of fun.

I'm hoping to keep every one in touch with what were doing! Hope every one is doing well!

Out For Dinner

So the other day Scott, Sandra, Jordan and I went out for dinner. We went to the Sooke harbor house and enjoyed a wonderful 8 course meal! One of my friends named Jenny that used to live on Thetis Island, then she went to school to become a chef, and is now the Soux Chef at the harbor house cooked for us!This was a soup, that was made of kale, it was a baked apple inside the middle stuffed with goats cheese and some other stuff. It was good.
Smoked and sired tuna, onto of a pickled bean and pepper salad, with some sauces!
Sired Salmon on the left, a white bean filled croquet and on the right a piece of pickled beet. The sauces were a scallion sauce, and a apple quince sauce.
Sweet chili chicken tenders, (the best Chinese food ever) ontop of sliced rutabaga and served with two sauces, I forget what was in them, but they were good.
Steamed Sable fish, toped with green beans, in a pine mushroom and seafood broth, it was on the salty side.
Duck course! Wow this one was really good~ I love duck, it was ontop of chantrell mushrooms rolled inside of a thin strip of rutabaga. Mini pumpkin on the top of the plate with some broccoli.
This was the cheese course, some really good cheeses! Goats, cows and even a blue!
This was the last one by this time it was round 10:30 I think, was started at 6:30, we had a poppy seed angle food cake, with a poached pear ontop. In front of that was strawberry icecream, with a red wine reduction. That was the end
This is Jenny cooking the duck for us! Thank-you Jenny and Sandra for making this happen for us. The meal should have cost us $100 each but they covered it for us! Wow thanks so much!

So Its been way to long since I blogged! I'm very sorry, I thought I would give you a quick update!

The Summer went great I would say, I got to do tones of things! Amie was here that was wonderful! I got to go to Alaska, Lots of wonderful people came for Holiday Bible Weeks (Capernwray) it was fun to catch up with old guests! We had a great men's conference and the summer finished up a few weeks after that!

Staff conference came and went! It was great to have the millers from the homestead, and Steve and Matt from Capernwray Quebec, and even meeting dean from Quebec! It was a good time to rest and not cook thanks to the Koenigs! Good Teaching, and wonderful hang out time!

I went on a nice boat ride with Scott, Liz, and Christine a couple of weeks ago to Wallace Island! We had a great salmon BBQ and walked around! We found this old truck and I thought I would pose in it!

The New students came yesterday! Its great to have a new group here! I like to meet them all, but its so hard to remember their names! I'll try! I can't wait to get to know the guys and have them over for steaks and all those great things!

Well that's it for a while, I hope to update you sooner than the last time! I'm planning to be in Summerland in a couple of weeks for my cousin Steves wedding, I hope to see lots of people then! Well have a great day!!!

So two weeks ago, Amie and I bought a kite, and we are really enjoying the whole kiting thing, except I broke it last week, while we are still trying to fix it! And it is fixable, but we want to do it right! So when we were in Tofino we found a kite shop we saw this really cool Box Kite, its called the triad, and its made by the same people who made our big kite, so this is Amie putting it together!
This is Amie, eating a very large cookie! We were at a coffee shop having a few coffees and eating this very cookie! We were reading through a really cool book, I think its called 'places to see before you die' it was a book about the really cool places in the world, I think we want to go to them all!
These two pictures are off a van that was parked on the side of the road in Tofino. There are so many weird people, the man that was with the van, was Singing with some music and I guess showing off his dream catchers? It was funny

So I am back, but it took me a while to get things together to tell you all about it!, you could say that I was a little... Well I had things to do (AMIE IS HERE!!!)

Alaska

Well I have lots to say, but not much time to say it! I have been enjoying the first couple of days here in Alaska. I went fishing yesterday it was tons of fun! I spent most of my time inside working on food for the wedding that I'm doing! Its been fun! The family I'm staying with are great! The turners! Wonderful people! I haven't seen the night sky's at all! Its hard to explain unless you have been up here, but it does not get dark at night! You could drive with no lights on if you wanted to! I thought that was strange, but its normal here, I guess the other thing is yesterday was the longest day of the year!, wow what a place!

Well I hope you all like the flowers! I'm sure the deer will eat most of it soon! I'm not much of a green thumb, I don't really know the names of the flowers, but I think that they are very nice! Every year I buy a tone of plants from the quack Farm on Thetis here, and every year the deer them all, so this year I would like to do some deer eating of my own! Well I might not because when I had said that to Amie, she was not to happy with me harming Bambi! Enjoy the Pictures!

More LEGO!!!

A night of the bean game turned into playing with Lego, and it was a blast! The big thing we built, well Johannes and I really were the main builders on this one!

So when we finished playing we played the bean game, Lois won, but don't worry I got second!

Un-Rest in LEGO Land!

As you can tell if the Polizei (Police) have to come out there might be crime happening! Well as you guessed it, its true the bad guy was driving away in the Land Rover (if it was a Land Cruiser he would be a good guy, bad guys always have Rovers!)

So the Police man got out of his Patty Wagon and with a loud voice said freeze! The bad guy pointed over to the Big Wheeler and said, if you think that I'm bad look at him!

He is driving on another car, is that not criminal or what! So the Police man thought to him self, its a good thing I have this Patty wagon, I can put the bad guy driving the Big Wheeler in the back, and also the guy that was driving the Land Rover for driving a Land Rover instead of a Land Cruiser!
So now as you can tell every thing is back to normal in LEGO Land. As some of you might know the only way that this story was possible was because Amie has bought me all this LEGO, thank you so much its lots of fun to be 26 and still playing with LEGO. Oh the only thing that would let this story have a happy ending is if their were a LEGO Land Cruiser! But I'm sure they are very very hard to find!

Time away with Amie

Its safe to say that Amie and I had a wonderful time in Summerland. Below are some pics of our week. She wanted me to pose for the first one, this is behind the old bakery. That was me a long time ago.

We went to kelowna for the day, Shopping in the mall, we met up with Jolanda and John in the home depot, lululemon, and to the Toyota dealer it was so cool the new Land Cruiser is out so we went to look and to sit inside.

We went out to earls with Jolanda and Tessa. Jolanda and I had to go every time I'm home, Cajun Chicken Cesar Salad. MMM So Good!

Amie ontop of Giants Head Mountain in Summerland, We finally got around to touring around Summerland on the last day.

We had a wonderful time, went out lots for coffee and meals, hung out with family lots and even worked for a day. The kids love Amie, Who wouldn't! I'm so very thankful that we would do this.

Some new desserts @ Capes!

The First new dessert is Pavlova! MMM I love this dessert and its been taking a while for me to really learn how to make these Ausie wonders. These Pavlovas were made for the learders retreat during spring break here at Capernwray. The first picture is the finished product.

and these are the plates which we garnished each plate, chocolate for the borders and Kiwi and Strawberry sauces. It was a blast to make we only did about 30 plates.

The next dessert was a strawberry Soup which we also served during this conference it was purred strawberry's with club soda for a little fiz and fresh strawberry's for some texture. A scoop of lemon Gelato and some lemon peel for color!

So now you can all try this at home, and all come over and enjoy it with you!

A Chefs Breakfast!

So what does a guy who cooks for a living eat for breakfast, no kidding I had hash browns and eggs this morning.So maybe my Idea of hash browns and eggs differ from others, but non the less, I thought I would start off with some potatoes and cut them up like home fries, and fried and baked them with some seasoning, in a separate pan I fried off an egg and cut it with a cooking cutter. I took the hash browns and put them into a ring mould and steamed some asparagus and layed them on the home fries and then placed the egg on top, served with some spicy BBQ Sauce that I made a week ago, and your on your way to a great day. You all should do this for your self, its great to eat first class at home!

Focaccia Bread

So I love Focaccia Bread, Like I really LOVE it, so as I was telling you all I got a new book (Bread Baker's Apprentice) and in it I found a great recipe for Focaccia Bread. So I made a Loaf and it turned out great, I brought it with me to harbourview last night and every one loved it! I love the book, but every thing takes at least 2 days, but it was worth it!

Back Porch Gospel!

Steve and I joined a gospel band for one night, why only one night well we think that we may have been a little to good for them, me on the washboard and Steve with the egg shaker

It only took me a few minutes to figure out how to use it, now besides making great music I can even clean my laundry, so that's very exciting, It was fun to have the group from summerland here for a few days, they are fun and full of energy which is fun to be around. Soon I'll be back in Summerland and it will be fun to see every one again. Only 2 more weeks.

Kitchen Aid

So the other day I got a Kitchen Aid mixer from a guy that Scott and I met on our holidays in Seattle, I was at this guys (David Flin) house for a bible study one night, and after we finished we went into his kitchen and I told him that one day I would love to own a mixer like his. He told me that its a wonderful mixer and said that I should get one some day! Well the other day Lawrence and Lori went down their and David gave Lawrence the mixer to give to me! He told me in a note that him and his wife bought a new one!
The other thing I bought for my self was a new cook book. The Bread bakers Apprentice and its been a great book to get in to, but the recipes take more than a day each so you need patience for it. So the mixer came at a good time, and I can't wait to use it lots!

Celebrity Spotting

Steve and I went on town run the other day and guess who we spotted Matt Damon was on the Thetis Island Ferry, with freinds of ours Jen Jacobson and Terri Loewn. I never thought I would see him here. You hear about famous people on their fancy boats, but on our ferry thats crazy!

Food Show!

Well the other day Jordan, Chris and I went to Vancouver for the day to go to the BC Food Service Expo at BC Place Stadium. It was a good time to learn new things about the food, equipment, and every thing else to do with the kitchen. Every thing from new products and how to use them to a small version of IRON CHEF with chefs from the lower mainland. So some of you (AMIE) have been asking me where I have been. Whats happening with your blog. Well I'm not going to lie to you lately my internet time has been spent at an other webpage. A couple of weeks ago Kevin was playing Settlers Of Catan online and I was sucked in. I have been playing it lots and even wining lots. This was a game I played just before posting today. Any way all those who like the game, but have no one to play with when you want to. The internet has lots of people who love to play.

Well Study Projects have come and gone, and The party is always great, in the past we have done things like Icecream, nachos, Sushi. Well this time around it was time to go back to my dutch roots. Panckes and Poffertjes.

Well I cooked lunch for some friends of mine today, and I had some cod in the freezer that I caught this summer, with a loaf of Ciabatta bread from the main hall and great Appy was made!

Slices of bread with some olive oil on top, into the broiler to toast. Then I took a roma tomato and slices on the bread. The cod was marinated in lemon juice, olive oil, and some white wine (my dad made that) for half an hour. Then I warped It with some proscuto (Italian ham) and steamed it for a minute to Finish cooking it. The Lemon juice seemed to cure it so I just wanted to heat the fish through.

Place the fish on top of the bread with the tomato, and a slice of parma regiano on top and broil for a minute, then its done!

Well what was the inspiration for it! I think it was the bread, or the fish, or maybe the ham and cheese that Charlie brought back from his last trip, I'm not sure, but these days I have not really been using recipe's at home, I have been letting the ingedients work, Its fun to open up the fridge and say what can I make. Oh where did I get the idea to let it just happen with out recipe's well his name is Michael Smith!

Well the time finally came for the Albert Edward group to meet and look at pictures. I have had this dream for a long time that we would get together and check out all the great shots. We had a great photographer on our trip Phil. A. He took most of the pictures and they all turned out great. I wanted to show this one because I liked it the most, the group having fun with the mountain on the left in the back ground. We did climb it and we were all very tired at the end. Last night was good, to hang out. Its funny how when you go on a venture (bible school outing in the first month of school, every one goes on one such as hiking, surfing, bungy jumping, caving, sailing, and ocean kayaking) but when you go on a venture you get to know all of these people really well when you depend on them for the weekend, but then four months later you don't hang out as much any more. Groups of friends change during the year, not sure why but they do. Good times though, I'm loving the year, the students are great.

This is a picture I took this last summer of where I lived with my family in Holland over 16 years ago. Wow 16 years thats more than half of my life. Its amazing the things I have done in those years. I really enjoyed my time in Holland this past summer, but for now Canada is still my home. I hope to go and visit Holland some time again, but their are so many places I would love to go. Well time to go some where new, this summer Alaska, and from their I don't know just yet!!!

Just the Other day Liz asked me when I would be putting her picture on my blog, and I told her it would be soon. Well here it is. For those who don't know Liz, this is liz in Amble Side, in England. She noticed the sign Bizzy Lizzys and thought it would be good for me to take a picture. That was a fun day in Amble side, Christine, Liz, Lawrence, Lori, and I went out for lunch it was great. I enjoy Liz she is a great co-worker, neighbor and friend. Tonight she and lots others will come and watch Jack with me on Twenty Four.

Its true, folks I have a family and this is what they look like. I have a Mum and Dad, a Brother and Sister, a Brother in law and Sister in Law and they all have some wonderful kids whom I love very much. Edwin My brother and his wife Kelly have two kids Aliah and Adian. And My sister Jolanda and her husband John have two kids as well, Vayda and Tessa. We got to have a little family reunion just before I went to see Amie at Christmas. We had one evening together, which was great to see every one together and enjoying a meal. Auntie Cheryl and uncle Allan were with us too. I can't wait to see them all very soon, in fact in the beginning of April with Amie. It will be fun to have the family together again. See you all very very soon!!!

Twenty Four

So I'm like one of the biggest fans of Jack, yeah Jack he can do just about anything and get away with it, he can fight any one and he will always win. I have to admit that I have all the seasons on DVD. I bought the first two. Last year Andi, Sasha and Scott bought me season Three. Well just the other night Kevin and Steve bought me the fourth Season. So I'll put this out their right now Season five is still up for grabs if you want to buy it for me your all welcome. It won't be out till about December, just a thought. OK but tonight was exciting as always with Jack. This seems to be the case every week round 9. Its funny for some reason people like to call at 9 on Monday nights. Jack was great. So He was assumed dead for the last year and a half, but now people are finding out he is still alive, with that said he has met a nice lady and been spending time with her. Well She ends up at CTU and has to be interrogated and who else but Audrey has to do it. She was Jacks girlfriend in the last season. Its really funny to see things unfold. Check it out next week at 9 you'll love it.

Cooking Lessons... How do you boil water?

Well I have had a few guys ask me if I would take the time to teach them how to cook. As I was thinking about that I took some time to think about who was asking. Ryan who just asked Alexis to Marry him. Edwin who has also asked Heather to marry him, and then Cam who will... well I'll let him tell you about how he feels for Cassie! But from what I see I think he has reason to as well. So three guys with lots of reason to learn how to cook. So what do you teach three guys who are getting married soon. Well I think of the basics I guess. So we started last week. The very first lessons. How to Chop veggies. Mirepoix (2 Part Onion, 1 Part Carrot and 1 Part Celery) and that's the base for most soups and sauces. So why not start with a soup. A soup that I thought would be very important is Chicken noodle soup, for those days that she is not feeling well. Last week I asked them to bring pen and paper because things are going to pick up.
This week with pen in hand, we keep going with Mirepoix and move into sauces. Tomato sauce and a white sauce. The white sauce went really well, we added some cheese and put it on to some pasta. MMM it was great. So I think that they will be able by the end of it, cook a great meal for their wives, if any thing make them some soup if their not well.

As I was reading Amanda Browns blog this morning, she was sharing about how she likes to read others blogs. Well on a day off for me I like to read others as well, and even get a little up set when others have not updated theirs, even though I'm the worst with updating mine. where have I been...

I have been reminded by my sister that I needed to update my blog since its been nearly a month.

Well folks lots can happen in only a month. So What have I been up to well the day I got off from work I drove through the night to Summerland to be their for one day and spend time with the family.

Then I got on to a plane to Vancouver to spend an afternoon with my cousin (Chinese food) Then onto a plane to the U.K. to see Amie, this is where the lego comes into the picture. I got the lego from Amie the day I got to England and I played with it for the rest of the time, besides doing really cool things with Amie. I went to my first panto.. and up to Capernwray Hall.. and lots of other really cool things Which I would love to tell you all about.

I came home to Summerland on boxing day and spent the remainder of my holidays with family and friends in Summerland. New Years with Scott, Jojo, Michael, Jordan and some of my friends in Summerland. We drove back to the Island the next day after Church and a very quick stop at my wonderful sisters house to see Jolanda and John and the Kids whom are doing very great. It was good to see Mom and Dad, and Edwin and kelly and the kids. I love them all and look forward to seeing them all again soon I hope.

Well that's a month in my life, one with more excitement than a normal month.

I know this is the same pic as on April's Blog, but I feel like I should share with you all my side of the story. We all went out to Steeples restaurant. (Steeples Webpage)Scott, Christine, April, Kevin, Liz and I went out and it was great. So I thought I should tell you what I had!

To Start I Had
Traditional Baked French Onion
Kettle Simmered Veal Broth & Golden Brown Mozzarella Top
Pan~Seared Duck Breast
Merridale Cider Marinated, Local Saskatoon Berry Sauce, Butternut Squash & Chorizo Puree, Seasonal Vegetables

The Food Was great. We got there a little late, and it took a while to get our food, but when we got it we were all very happy with what we got. Its fun to go out once in a while for great food.

When Scott and I went on our holiday we went to a few good restaurants. A couple that stood out to me were Feenies (Feenies Webpage) I highly recommend this restaurant to those in the Vancouver area who want a little more than casual dining. I also enjoyed the Steamworks (Steamworks Webpage) This is a great place to go to in the evening to watch the game or to just go out with your friends.

I like to go out, I enjoy good service, and great food. When these things go hand in hand I really don't mind giving a good tip. I love when your being served with out even knowing that your being served like a water glass always being full. When the server is there to serve but not there to long to hang out like were best friends.

Share Christ's love at Christmas with a Russian Child

The Stuff a Stocking Project of Soar international (Soar's Webpage) this is a great way to share with children, what Christmas is.Many of these Children have never been given a gift before. So for them to get a gift is one thing, but that they can open it up, and find that their are gifts inside, is even better. OK so here is the deal $35 is all it costs. What Soar does is they take the money and buy every thing in Russia. Russia likes this it brings in money and takes care of their kids. One of our students here at Capernwray is involved in this wonderful ministry. Its a small version of the Shoe box gifts, form Operation Christmas Child Samaritans Purse I hope you take the time to check out both. I can't wait to be involved. in addition to spending the $35 they also want you to write a short note to one of the children, this is a way to personalize it for them so that when they compare with each other the see that every note is different and specially written to them and only them.

Big Fat Dinner

Today we went to the Mustard Seed annual dinner for the homeless in Victoria.Steve K. and I went down to help with the cooking. Steve and I had one plan and one plan along, by the end of the day we would have every one in the kitchen saying GOOD! Thats really Good, or things like I look Good! I mean I look really good! It was fun! The first person that really said that things were good was our new friend Arron who we can't even look at because he was on T.V. Today because he is one of the students of the Esquimalt School the place where we cooked the meal at, any way he started to say good with us it was GOOD, I mean really GOOD! To the side is our boss Lynn She even started to say that things were Good, but she took a while. I sliced meat the whole time we were their. I'm not sure how much but 1000 people are going to be feed tonight. Something like 600 pounds of potatoes 2 or 3 sacks of onions for the stuffing along plus about 5-6 garbage bags full of bread for the stuffing. Numbers that are really big. Steve and I had a lot of fun, I love to go down and work with them, their real people wanting to serve other real people. Long and hard days they all put into serving the homeless and its easy for me to go down on a sunday and volunteer a couple hours but the people of the Seed do this every day they love the people they work with. this is not just a big dinner to give hand-outs, but more like a family dinner to share with their family.

A Big Thank You to all the volunteers who serve among the home-less, in a soup kitchen or in a clinic where ever, a place to be safe and cared for is what you provide, and most important is your love for them. Caring for them is how you love them!

Chocolate Orange Torte

mmm... Chocolate Orange Torte is a great recipie to do around the holidays. I have done this one for the students around christmas last year. It's like eating a piece of fudge, but in the form of a cake. This torte is wheat free so its low on the carbs, well their might be a few things that are not the greatest for you, but its the holidays now you can enjoy for a bit.

1.5 cup Butter
12 oz. Semi Sweet Chocolate (Callebaut Chocolate)
3/4 cup Sugar
3/4 cup Orange Juice
1 tea spoon Vanilla
6 Eggs
White Chocolate Shavings (Callebaut Chocolate)

In a double boiler over hot, not boiling water melt together butter, chocolate, sugar and orange juice, stirring to a blend. Remove from heat and stir in Vanilla and let cool. Whisk in the eggs, and strain through a strainer into a pie dish. Bake at 350F for 40-45 minutes, until edge is slightly crusty and middle is just set. Let cool, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 12 hours up to 24. I like to serve it with a raspberry sauce and some White Chocolate Shavings. Enjoy it!

Most of you know that my dad is a baker, well I remember when I was young I would always look for the chocolate. He would be really good at keeping it from me, but their were times when I would find it. I was even called Chocolate Andy form time to time. Well I remember the Chocolate he used was Callebaut Chocolate (There is a link on the side in the food stuff links) I really still like Callebaut Chocolate, but I am cutting back on eating it. But even this morning at work I was using it for a Dessert, I did have a little snack. Belgian Chocolate far out does any Chocolate, Germans have their Milka with the purple Cow, The Brits have Cadbury which is good really really good (It really is Amie I mean it) But I'm form Holland and I don't even think that the dutch can make Chocolate, but the belgians, if it has Callebaut stamped into it, I know its going to be good, White, Milk, and even Dark.

ALASKAN FISH FRY!

Last night was a great time, with my new friends from Alaska. James asked me a while ago that if he where to bring down some fish from Alaska if I would cook it for him, well did I ever cook fish last night. It was a blast we really had a good time, with the best part the DISHES after they all left!
It was funny I told the students from Alaska to all bring one friend so they could share with them what it is like in Alaska, well the girls all came on time of coures so here I was hanging out with 6 girls waiting for James to show up, even Scott would have done fine, but as many of you know me I don't mind... Above are the Alaskan Students.
To the right is me cooking, or I should say finnishing what the grill took to long to do. I love to grill, I use a Holland Grill, not because I'm Dutch and I like Holland, but because the Grill is really good (I have a link to their site on the side) The Holland Grill is sometimes a little slow (as Chuck Pinches Likes to call it the Dutch Slow cooker) Well yes its slow but it does a great job when you let it do its thing. When you open it up it takes a while to heat up again so "WHEN YOUR LOOKEN YOUR NOT COOKEN".
Lots of fun, if you ever get the chance to go to a Alaskan Fish fry go it will be worth to just watch them have fun. We asked them if they could live in Maui or Alaska they all said Alaska for sure. I think it would be fun to go their some time to visit. Then I can go and catch my own fish and fry them fresh.
MMM... that sounds great. As you can see the house was full, loads of laughs and we even had Moose tracks for dessert the Ice cream that is!

Marshmallow Warfare

So a couple of weeks ago Scott and I went down to seattle for a week of holidays. We went to see a few friends of ours. One of our stops was at the homestead with Greg Miller and the first night we were there Greg thought it would be funny to pull out his marshmallow gun and started to take shots at Scott and I. All in good fun. Well Scott and I being the good guys that we are, cam home and the first thing we did was went to the shop to make our own guns to have a "little fun" with Greg. You see Greg was to come and teach here the next week, well at staff meeting as Greg was sharing with the staff about something, Scott and I pulled out our guns and started to take shots at him, all the staff though it was great, which had Scott making guns for some of the staff.
Since then Scott and I have had a couple of marshmallow fights, and you never know when your safe in the house.
The other day Jordan was over, we had just come back from a Kupper Island gym night and he came over to watch a movie. Jordan was asleep before the end. I looked at Scott and said Marshmallow guns, he looked back and before we knew it we found our self shooting Jordan. Jordan was really sleeping good because we were getting some really good shots at his face and he still didn't wake up. So I thought it would be fun to share this fun with Kevs so I ran to get kev and he came over for some target practice. Well after a while Jordan woke up but was really unsure of what was going on.

Where to start this has been something that I have been wanting to do for a while, some know me as andy from summerland, some know me a a little brother, some know me as a cook at Capernwray, and I thought this would be a good way to conect them all to each other. I like the Idea of using the blog because it can say so much and not have to write everyone what I'm doing. So this is going to be about me & Jesus, my life, my fam, my freinds, and my food.
